Venture off the beaten path on a 5 night / 6 day road trip with award winning photojournalist Alfredo De Lara. We travel together on an adventure from the faded elegance of Cuba's capital city to the rural heartland of an island nation. Along the way, I introduce you to the people and the places that have shaped todays' Cuba and take you on an exploration of backroads to the less visited parts of the island. I facilitate authentic cultural exchange through our hosts and by meeting fascinating locals one-on-one.

We spend two nights exploring the magic of Havana and all of her treasures. You will be staying with a Cuban family, living in the restored majesty of Old Havana and her maze of colonial history. We venture out to discover artist galleries and home cooked meals in privately owned  "Paladares". Nightlife takes on new meaning as we explore Cuban youth culture; from graffiti artists to hip-hop performers. By day we visit the north coast and Playas del Este, and an urban agriculture cooperative with a farm to table eats. At sunset we cross the legendary Bahia de La Habana and ask Cuba's patron saint of safe passage for protection on our island journey. The road trip continues to Artemisa and across the Sierra del Rosario mountains to Valle de Viñales for three nights. Home to the worlds most well known tobacco harvest and some of the finest natural beauty on the island.

We each have the opportunity to build a better future between these two great nations by fostering relationships built on mutual respect. Ethical travel has the ability to empower everyday Cubans who are embracing new economic reforms. The photos you bring back to family and friends in America will help open minds and hearts. We can all play a role in reconciling our mutual history - one family at a time.

Small groups - 6 or less persons. $1780 per per person (based on double occupancy) covers all costs once you arrive in Cuba - Airport Pick up & Drop off - All meals & Accommodation - All ground transportation & Guide Services. We also help guide you through visa requirements and make sure you have all of your paperwork in order.  Pick your dates and where you want to go. I take care of the rest.

To my knowledge, this is the only tour offering 100% private home-stay accommodation in over 27 cities across the island. All of our meals are taken at private family owned restaurants. We cruise the backroads in a classic 1950 Chevy Clipper tourbus driven by it's owner and restoration mechanic. We even offer on-demand local translator/fixers to go with you if you decide to break from the group for a while and explore on your own.

Our unique road-trip style tours run through the rural heart of Cuba and her culture. We start our journey on the colonial streets of Old Havana and experience the hustle of big city nightlife. From the capital follow the road east exploring tropical waterfalls and riding horseback to rarely visited mountain villages on the way to the Caribbean coast of Cayo Jutias and it's hidden fishing towns.

CubaRoadTrip.com is a U.S. State Department approved "People-to-People" fully guided cultural exchange travel program intended for curious travelers with a wanderlust for out of the way people & places. Join me for an unforgettable journey; from the faded elegance of Cuba's capital cities, to the rural heart of an island nation.

My 25 years of travel to Cuba as a photojournalist are tempered with my experience growing up as a first generation Cuban-American kid in Miami. My tours try to reflect that Cuban experience in a "no bullshit" way - from both sides of the spectrum. My aim is to facilitate an experience, as authentic, as if you were visiting your own Cuban family on the island.
